Just days after Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell died, another celebrity has sadly left this Earth. It has now been revealed that former James Bond actor Sir Roger Moore has passed away today due to cancer. The actor was 89 years old.

The Sir Roger Moore Twitter page posted: "With the heaviest of hearts, we must share the awful news that our father, Sir Roger Moore, passed away today.

We are all devastated." A private funeral will be held for the man in Monaco in the coming days.

Many people will remember Sir Roger Moore as the longest serving James Bond actor.

He starred in a total of seven James Bond films which is more than Sean Connery (who officially starred in six) and the four movies that Daniel Craig and Pierce Brosnan did.

Moore's James Bond movies were classics. I remember as a kid enjoying the likes of The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker.

His battles with the villain Jaws were very entertaining to watch.

Some people might say his Bond films were too comedic, but they worked well when they came out back in the '70s and '80s.

He was also the oldest actor to play Bond as he was 57 years old when A View to a Kill came out in 1985.

After James Bond, Moore was an ambassador for UNICEF so he was also a great person in real life.

I was lucky enough to meet Moore several years ago during a book signing he did for his biography. I am glad to say he was a nice man when you meet him in person too

Moore may have died today, but his legacy will last forever. I'm pretty sure many fans today will go back and rewatch many of his classic Bond films back-to-back.
