20th Century Fox had high hopes that The Predator would be the highest grossing film in the entire 30 year old franchise.

Well the new movie is out in North America already, but the Box Office weekend intake is not as high as it should have been.

As reported by Box Office Pro, The Predator opened with less than its $30 million target and instead made $24.7 million in its Box Office opening weekend.

The opening is slightly less than the money made by 2010's Predators starring Adrien Brody as the main character.

The reason for the low opening for The Predator is mainly due to poor word of mouth.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the Rotten Tomatoes rating from critics is only at 34% while the audience score does not fair any better at only 51%.

The Cinemascore grade is worse as it only got a "C+" from all movie goers that saw the film.

The Predator has a production budget of around $88 million so it may need to do a lot of work in order to gain a profit.

From a worldwide standpoint, the movie has earned over $54 million so it will have to rely on countries around the world to earn more money.

Another reason the movie may have underwhelmed is the fact that the movie does not have any big name actors attached to it.

The first movie still remains to be the most popular one of the franchise mainly because Arnold Schwarzenegger is the main star!

The only other new releases this weekend were for the movie called "A Simple Favor" and "White Boy Rick". The two movies earned $16 million and $8.8 million this weekend respectively.
