For the past few weeks now 'Crazy Rich Asians' had been on top for the Box Office three times in a row.

Well the romantic comedy's reign at the top ended this weekend as it got beat by 'The Nun' which had a monster sized opening.

As reported by Box Office Pro, 'The Nun' had a healthy $53.5 million Box Office opening weekend.

This exceeded expectations and is the biggest opening weekend for 'The Conjuring' franchise. The opening easily beat the $41.8 million Box Office weekend of the first Conjuring movie released in 2013.

While the movie did not beat the $123.4 million opening weekend of It, The Nun still became the second highest opening of the month of September.

This is also good news for Warner Bros since that studio is responsible for both The Nun and Crazy Rich Asians.

The Nun may have had a decent opening weekend, but word of mouth for the film remains to be poor.

Over on Rotten Tomatoes, only 28% of critics like it while the audience score is at 50% only. The Cinemascore got a C grade which means the movie isn't going to appeal to many average movie goers.

The Nun could still get over $100 million domestically by the end of its run, but it's unlikely going to score much higher than that.

The only other new release this week was Jennifer Garner's 'Peppermint' movie which grossed $13.2 million in its opening weekend. This is seen as okay since the budget for the film is around the $20 million mark.

The only big news to come from the global Box Office is that Mission: Impossible - Fallout is now the highest grossing Mission: Impossible movie of all time. It has now grossed over $726.6 million worldwide!
