This evening, on All In With Chris Hayes, host Chris Hayes brought on Republican Congressman Michael Burgess of Texas to discuss yesterday's Obamacare repeal bill, which Burgess voted for.

The interview turned rough immediately, as Hayes, unlike some other TV hosts, refused to let Burgess spout talking points about the bill.

And the result was that Burgess spent the entire interview trying to use semantic tricks in order to avoid admitting anything about the substance of the bill.

Hayes began the interview by asking Burgess some basic questions about the purpose of the bill, which Burgess didn't want to answer.

Hayes started with the most fundamental question: whether the bill would allow states to charge people more for insurance if they have pre-existing conditions.

Given that for years, the Republican Party has decried the fact that under Obamacare, people have to pay the same price for health insurance regardless of whether they're sick or healthy, you'd think that Burgess would be pretty open about the fact that the bill reverses this.

However, Burgess refused to admit anything of the sort. Every time Hayes asked a question about the issue, Burgess came up with a bunch of semantic wordplay in order to avoid saying yes or no.

In fact, Burgess appeared to spend much of the interview arguing that states won't want to take advantage of this most basic feature of the bill.

At one point after Hayes repeated his question, Burgess actually said that the Senate isn't as conservative, so there's no need to worry about this bill. Of course, this was the bill that he voted for.

Hayes then went on to ask questions about Donald Trump's promises not to take away Medicare. Burgess spent several minutes arguing the semantics of that question as well.
