The highly anticipated The Lion King movie will be out next week, but the critics have already seen the movie. Despite being a huge release, it sounds like the critics prefer the 1994 original much better.

As you can see on Rotten Tomatoes, The Lion King currently has a rating of 58% from critics. 61 reviews are fresh, but a sizable 44 reviews are rotten.

The average score for the film is 6.26/10 meaning we are looking at many 3 star reviews. You can read the Critics Consensus down below.

"While it can take pride in its visual achievements,The Lion King is a by-the-numbers retelling that lacks the energy and heart that made the original so beloved--though for some fans that may just be enough."

Many reviewers like the 2D animation of the original because the characters show more emotion in their faces. In the live action remake, the facial animation isn't as expressive.

While the critics might not like the movie, this does not mean the fans will have the same opinion. After all, Aladdin got mixed reviews from critics earlier this year, but the fans seem to love it no matter what.

The Lion King remake releases on July 19th, 2019 in North America. You can read the synopsis posted down below.

"From Disney Live Action, director Jon Favreau's all-new "The Lion King" journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub's arrival. Scar, Mufasa's brother-and former heir to the throne-has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba's exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his."
