Usually movies based on video games suck, but it looks like we've received a somewhat decent one for once. Pokemon Detective Pikachu is out now in cinemas and it's mostly got favorable reviews.

As seen on Rotten Tomatoes, the current critical rating for Pokemon Detective Pikachu is 62 percent. 111 reviews are liking the movie while 67 reviews gave the movie a thumbs down.

The average rating for the film is 5.9/10 meaning a majority of critics have given the movie a 3 star rating. You can read the Critics Consensus posted down below.

"Pokémon Detective Pikachu may not take its wonderfully bizarre premise as far as it could have, but this offbeat adaptation should catch most -- if not all -- of the franchise's fans.

The audience rating seems better because 86 percent of the fans love the movie so far. If the movie has good word of mouth, there's a chance it could earn lots of money at the Box Office.

"The story begins when ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City - a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world - they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.
