The Howard Stern SiriusXM radio show got off to a huge start this week as John Goodman sat down to chat with Stern about his upcoming film 10 Cloverfield Lane, his early life and past projects.

Stern introduced Goodman as the star of a film that's one of the best he has seen in a long time, referring to 10 Cloverfield Lane, from producer J.J. Abrams. Stern immediately addressed Goodman's weight by saying he was skinny now.

Goodman told Stern that the film was shot about a year ago so he has dropped some more weight after the film.

Goodman slowly lost the weight through dieting and exercises on the elliptical as well as stomach curls, according to MarksFriggin's rundown. Goodman has also been sober for 8 years.

"Howard said John was a football player and he must have drank doing that. John said he was a big, slow white boy," according to MF.

"He said he went to college and thought he could walk into the team and get a scholarship. He said he ended up in the theater department instead."

Goodman told Stern he didn't care if he got hell for it because it was something he loved. Stern predicts that the new film, 10 Cloverfield Lane will be a "monster smash" at the box office.

Goodman revealed that the original name for the film was "The Cellar" which made sense considering where much of the film's trailer and presumably the film takes place.

The film was shot in New Orleans and Stern added that not much should be revealed about the film trying to keep it a mystery for fans.

They jumped back on the subject of Goodman's weight as Stern said he had never seen him that big before.

Goodman told the Stern Show crew and listeners that there were points where he was bigger and when you're big enough you start to remove the mirrors from your house. He also revealed that he shaves without using a mirror.

Goodman recounted roles like the Monuments Men, King Kong and Monsters Inc. and Stern also pointed out that Goodman hosted SNL 13 times in his career.

Goodman praised Brie Larson because she treated them all so well and that her performance in Room knocked him on his can.

Goodman's interview and quite extensive which is fitting for someone who has had such a multifarious career. 10 Cloverfield Lane hits theaters on Friday, March 11.
