The slasher genre is making a come back. But this time not in movie form but instead as TV shows. MTV has their "Scream" based show.

"Scream Queens" will be starting up soon and now the CW is modeling a series after the "Friday the 13th" franchise.

The CW has been mulling over this idea for a while now. They even brought in terror expert Bill Basso to write up a script with Jason terrorizing people in different time periods.

Which come one, that would have been a wicked good show.

But The CW decided against that idea.

The show will revolve around the ongoing quest of a detective's search for his missing brother that is somehow tied to Jason Vorhees, a long thought dead serial killer who has now returned to wreak havoc in the new Crystal Lake.

Which may lead to the show having a meta-type feel. As most people know, horror movies exist in a world without horror movies. The CW discussed earlier in the year their idea that the series would still be in the "real" world.

So "Friday the 13th" movies would exist in the series. Thus the killer can't actually be Jason Vorhees because he'll be a fictional character. Or perhaps he'll simply be one of those things that walked out of the movie screen.

The CW is has also started developing TV series based off of other popular movies such as: The Notebook, Little Women and Frequency. They've even started on an adaptation of Archie Comics' Riverdale.

"I'm a big believer in titles and franchises," Pedowitz said at TCA today. "It makes them break out of the pack in some ways."
