What to do in Vianden, Luxembourg

Vianden is a charming small town located in north-eastern Luxembourg, very close to the German border. It is famous for its stunning medieval castle, located high on a hill overlooking the town and the River Our. However, Vianden offers much more than just a castle, and there are many other tourist attractions that visitors should not miss while in the area.

1. Vianden Castle - Built between the 11th and 14th centuries, the castle is the most impressive tourist attraction in the town. It was renovated in the 19th century and today serves as a museum. Visitors can take a guided tour and explore the castle's many rooms, learn about its history and medieval life.

2. Victor Hugo House - French writer Victor Hugo lived in Vianden for a few months in the 19th century, and his former home has been turned into a museum. Visitors can see some of the furniture and books that belonged to the great writer and get a glimpse of his life in Luxembourg.

3. Chairlift - The Vianden chairlift takes visitors from the town up to the castle, providing stunning views of the river and the town below. The ride takes about five minutes, and there are some excellent photo opportunities along the way.

4. Saint Nicholas Church - This beautiful church is one of the oldest in Luxembourg and dates back to the 13th century. It was renovated in the 18th century, and the interior features impressive paintings and sculptures.
