The Forbidden City, officially known as the Palace Museum, is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Beijing, as well as all of China. It is a massive palace complex that served as the imperial palace for over 500 years. The Forbidden City is divided into two main sections, the outer court, and the inner court. The outer court served as a ceremonial space while the inner court was home to the emperor and his family.
3. The Terracotta Warriors of Xi'an
The Terracotta Army is a collection of terracotta sculptures that depicts the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. The thousands of life-sized warriors and horses were buried with the emperor in 210-209 BCE in order to protect him in the afterlife.
4. The Summer Palace of Beijing
This is a humongous complex of palaces and gardens that was once the summer residence of the imperial families of China. The Summer Palace is home to several attractions, including the Long Corridor, which is the longest covered walkway in the world.
5. The Shilin Stone Forest of Yunnan
Located in Yunnan Province, the Shilin Stone Forest is a remarkable geological formation. It is made up of towering limestone pillars that create a maze of paths and caverns that stretch over 270 square miles. It is known as the "First Wonder of the World."
6. The Pingyao Ancient Town of Shanxi
Pingyao Ancient Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Shanxi Province. It is a well-preserved example of an ancient walled city and is one of the best-preserved examples of a Ming and Qing Dynasty city in China. Visitors can take a guided tour through the narrow streets and alleyways and see some of the traditional buildings, old temples, and ancient walls that date back over 2,000 years ago.
In conclusion, North China is undoubtedly one of the greatest regions to explore while visiting China. With so many world-renowned landmarks and natural wonders, it is no wonder why this region is considered one of the must-see destinations in the world.
