Now that Disney has acquired the Star Wars universe, according to Daniel B. Kline of TheMotleyFool, fans can expect a release of all new merchandise come September 4.
Disney strategically made the announcement on the "Star Wars Day" to amp up the festivities celebrating one of Hollywood's most monumental films.
"As legend has it, and according to the origin story recognized by Lucasfilm, the phrase was first used on May 4, 1979, the day Margaret Thatcher took office as UK prime minister," reports Henry Hanks of CNN.
"The Conservative party allegedly placed an ad in the London Evening News which read, 'May the Fourth Be With You, Maggie. Congratulations.'"
"It took off in the social media age (where it has become a big deal every year) and finally expanded to real-life with events in Toronto. Now, there are events celebrating the day worldwide."
This year the celebration is extra special with the upcoming release of "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" scheduled for December 18. Upon the announcement of the film and the first official trailer the buzz began to build and it's only going to continue to climb as the release date draws near, especially after the second official teaser.
From merchandise to celebrations and memes Star Wars Fever is officially in full effect.
