Usually, it's Homer Simpson who has a new job, but in this week's "The Simpsons," it's Marge who finds a new profession opening a sandwich shop (which is similar to, but legally not, a Subway).

It's actually not a completely new line of work for Marge, since she once ran a pretzel franchise, but it's her first foray into having a physical shop.

Marge has also worked as a police officer, run a ladies gym, and a realtor in a particularly memorable episode that oddly had a lot of Subway commercials.

The genesis of the shop came from Marge making sandwiches when Homer's doomsday freezer full of meat -- the Freezerino -- turned out to be owner by Flanders. The sandwiches proved popular at Springfield Elementary and Marge was approached to open a franchise across from the school.

It's a pretty thin premise, even for a series which had Homer as an astronaut, mayor, an ice cream man, Mr. Plow, Mr. Sparkle, circus freak, travel agent member of a barbershop quartet, world's fattest man, and many, many more.

Mother Hubbard's Sandwich Cupboard receives a visit early on from Krusty the Klown and Mr. Teeny (bearing a baseball bat) to scare her off from opening (to protect Krusty Burger) which ends in Mr. Teeny bathing in salsa.

Potential employees included Gil, Shauna the smoking teenage girl, and Professor Frink.

Gil ends up getting hired to work as a man in a sandwich suit, who is also working for a local condo sales office as an arrow pointing toward the sale's office.

Things we learned:

Chief Wiggum like mayo.
Homer once drank so much free soda he put a Pizza Hut out of business.
Gil has legs like a turkey.
Duff Man stuffs his jock with sandwiches.

The episode took a dark turn when a Mother Hubbard's Cupboard Express opens across the street run by Cleetus the Slackjawed Yokel.

The end of the episode includes Homer having a pot of coffee and various syringes and scissors hit him in the groin.
