Predator was one of the great films of the 1980s and now it's coming back with a new cast, a new director, and presumably better special effects.

20th Century Fox is bringing back its "Predator" franchise with "Iron Man 3? writer-director Shane Black on directing Variety reported. Fox-based John Davis, who produced the original 1987 sci-fi actioner with Joel Silver and Lawrence Gordon, is producing the reboot.

Black and Fred Dekker will write the script.

The original film starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, and future governor Jessie "The Body" Ventura.

It had a global gross of just under $100 million -- not bad for a film released in 1987 -- but it's real life came in video.

A sequel was made as were two films matching the protagonist aliens against the bad guy from the "Alien" movies.
