The Orlando Pulse Nightclub Shooting was one of the most devastating events in the U.S. Ellen DeGeneres welcomed one of the survivors, Tony Marrero, to share his story of survival on The Ellen Show.

DeGeneres first shared how she saw the news of the shooting at the Pulse Nightclub and spent 15 hours after finding out sobbing. She then introduced the story of Tony Marrero which began with various news reports. It showed footage of how the rest of the world reacted with love and solidarity.

Then, it was time for Marrero's story. He said he was invited out by his best friend Luis who he got close to while working at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

They were just about to leave when they heard the gunshots. He said they looked at each other and hit the ground. It was the last time he saw Luis.

Marrero was shot four times in the back and his boyfriend Justin, talked about seeing Marrero again after the shooting. There was also touching footage of Marrero's speech to his co-workers after losing Luis.

DeGeneres reached out to Marrero after she saw a photo of him from the hospital bed with a poster reading "I'm still swimming, Ellen" and a drawing of Dory. DeGeneres said all she wanted to do was shake his hand and give him a big hug.

Marrero joined DeGeneres who said that day devastated her. Luis only wanted to go to the club because it was Latin night.

Luis was not gay and wanted Marrero to accompany him. He recounted the story and how he got separated from Luis in that moment.

Marrero pretended to be dead for about an hour and he was told that he died on the way to the hospital. He was out for many hours and was given two shots of adrenaline.

Marrero dragged himself to an officer and the door and was carried across the street.

DeGeneres told Marrero she was so sorry for what he went through and wanted to set up a screening for him and his friends to see Finding Dory. You can watch Marrero tell his story in the video below.
