Hosts Julie Chen, Sarah Gilbert, Aisha Tyler, and Sheryl Underwood sat down with the "Red Band Society" star Octavia Spencer for Monday' s episode of "The Talk".

After her Oscar caliber performance in "The Help," Spencer greeted a crowd who gave her a stand ovation.

The first question posed to Spencer was about Jennifer Lopez's claim that her entourage was the reason for her failed relationships with Ben Affleck and Marc Anthony.

She says that she didn't know her personally but if she saw things being written about her she would be hurt.

Spencer also talked about the experience during award season. She says that she made sure to meet as many people as she could.

Spencer was able to meet George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and more. She also gave a nod to Viola Davis who told her how much she should appreciate everything she worked for.

Spencer spoke very highly of Kevin Costner's performance in "Black And White," which is set for January 2015. She says that the movie is one of Costner's best performances to date.

"Red Band Society" was chosen by Spencer for many reasons with Steven Spielberg being one of the major ones.

When asked how she responds to people who notice her she jokingly referred to the many who refer to her as Sherri Shepherd.

"Spencer, who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Minny in the 2011 film 'The Help' - also revealed that she has found it easier to find work since turning 40," according to Contact Music.

"It took me 15 years to become an overnight success.

I think for a lot of character actors, a lot of us hit our stride when we turn 40 and, if you're an ingenue, well there's only a small window when you can [be an] ingenue, after that you can't fake it.

The shelf life of a character actor is much longer and you do have the ability to be a late bloomer," Spencer told The Independent newspaper according to the Contact Music article.
