In 1984 the replacements took a bold step when they released "Androgynous," a song that predated the current LGBT movement.

As Miley Cyrus continues to advocate for LGBT rights she along with Joan Jett and Laura Jane Grace covered the powerful 1984 track.

In her #backyardsessions for the Happy Hippies Foundation, Cyrus was joined by Jett and Grace for a group cover of "Androgynous." Grace came out as a transgender making the transition into living as a woman and ultimately released an album with her punk back Against Me! titled, "Transgender Dysphoria Blues." With Cyrus becoming a strong advocate for LGBT rights having the support of other musicians, especially ones that can relate, looks to builds upon the society that is still looking for equal rights.

"I believe every American should be allowed the same rights and civil liberties," wrote Cyrus in an open essay for Glamour Magazine.

"Without legalized same-sex marriage, most of the time you cannot share the same health benefits, you are not considered next of kin and you are not granted the same securities as a heterosexual couple.

How is this different than having someone sit in the back of the bus because of their skin color?"

Cyrus might have been shocking fans for years but she's found yet another cause to fight for in her quest to make a positive influence where it's needed.

Below is the cover presented by the Happy Hippie that also helps homeless youth.
