After fans were first able to get their hands on a pair of Nike Mags made famous by Michael J. Fox's character Marty McFly in Back to the Future, in 2011, the sneaker plans on making it's return in 2016.

1500 of the Nike Mags were auctioned off on Ebay where all proceeds went to The Michael J. Fox Foundation. Yesterday Fox tweeted a letter that he received from Tinker Hatfield, one of Nike's most renowned and respected designers.

After the tweet, fans believed that the sneakers could have released yesterday because of the significance of October 21, 2015. It was the date in the future that McFly traveled to in order to save his future kids.

Now, Nike has released official release information for the sneakers which will also follow the same type of release as it's initial batch in 2011.

"The 2015 Nike Mag is a limited edition release. It will only be available via auction, with all proceeds going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research," said Nike in a press release.

"The specific details on the auctions will be posted to Nike News and via Twitter @Nike in spring 2016."

The shoes futuristic design and it's iconic relationship to the Back to the Future film has made it one of the most hyped up pairs of footwear on the market.

2011 pairs are fetching heavy prices on the resale market but they are missing one thing that the 2016 pair is promising, a self-lacing feature.

"The resulting Nike Mag reinvented the conventional lacing system, integrating it into an inimitable design that became an enduring beacon of popular culture," according to the release.

"We started creating something for fiction and we turned it into fact, inventing a new technology that will benefit all athletes," said Nike, Inc. President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Parker.

Yesterday mass media celebrated Back to the Future Day but it looks like the movie will continue to make a lasting effect well into Spring of 2016 courtesy of Michael J. Fox and Nike.
