The multitalented Mel Brooks, writer of The Producers, stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to reminisce about his friend Gene Wilder, who passed away earlier this week.

Brooks visited The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to talk about his book Young Frankenstein which also happened to be a 1974 film featuring Wilder. He was good friends with Wilder and claimed that Wilder was sick and he knew it. Brooks said what he misses is being able to call Wilder up.

He expected his friend to go but said it was still a big shock. Brooks said that Wilder was such a wonderful part of his life.

He met Wilder backstage when Brooks' wife was doing a play. Wilder asked him why people were always laughing at him and Brooks told him to look in the mirror.

After that meeting they became good friends and went out to work on films such as The Producers and Young Frankenstein, two incredible and memorable classics.

Brooks also spoke about how Wilder's idea for Young Frankenstein came about. He explained that Frankenstein's grandson didn't want anything to do with making a monster.

Brooks told Wilder it was a terrific idea and together, the two wrote the film. You can check out Mel Brooks' interview with Jimmy Fallon in the videos below.
