Howard Stern was surprised to learn that Martin Short briefly dated Gilda Radner, and Short confirmed that she was one of the loves of his life.

Short dated Radner before Bill Murray did, and before Saturday Night Live. "We dated for two years, but we'd break up for a month," Short said, but the relationship didn't last for longer than that, obviously.

At the time, she was 26, and Short was 22. It doesn't seem like much of a difference, but its a big gap that young in life.

"I didn't understand how, when you had all these gifts, how you couldn't always be happy, and she wasn't always happy," Short said, and she would be angry that he wasn't understanding.

Short and Radner would have an on-again-off-again relationship, and during one of their break-up sessions, Short met his wife, so Radner and he never got back together.

Even after they broke up, Short would stay with Radner. He stayed with her for a week, and slept in her bed for one night.

Stern and Robin didn't have as good an experience with Gilda Radner.

She was very upset and crying when Stern was interviewing her, and he thinks he came off like he was insane.

Robin believes they were simply excited to see her, but maybe she read it as insincere and was stunned by the whole thing.
