Kendrick Lamar to Perform the 2016 Essence Festival

As the Essence Festival returns to the New Orleans Superdome, so to does Kendrick Lamar who is set to perform along with an extensive list of celebrated artists in the music industry both new and old.

The five-time Grammy award winner will be headlining the show alongside Ciara, Mariah Carey, Charlie Wilson and Maxwell. Meanwhile, there are a huge number of opening artists that includes: Babyface, BJ The Chicago Kid, Cyril Neville, Daley, Digable Planets, Doug E. Fresh, Eric Bellinger, Estelle, Faith Evans, Jidenna, Judith Hill, Kelly Price, Lady Leshurr, Lalah Hathaway, Little Simz, Mali Music, MC Lyte, New Breed Brass Band, New Edition, Robert Glasper Experiment, Preservation Hall Band, St. Beauty, The Brand New Heavies, Tyrese, V. Bozeman, Jeremih, Leon Bridges, The Internet, Def Loaf, Lion Babe and Tink.

Lamar made headlines with his explosive and eye-opening performance at the 2016 Grammys. His album To Pimp A Butterfly is one of the most critically acclaimed hip-hop albums of 2015.

Lamar's label TDE recently revealed plans for yet another Lamar project in 2016 that should continue what is already a huge year for one of President Barack Obama's favorite hip-hop artists. The 2016 Essence Festival will take place from June 30 to July 3.
