Jennifer Hudson discussed getting her start singing duets with the deep frier on The Howard Stern Show Wednesday morning.

"I used to sing in the drive-thru," Hudson told Stern. "There was a mic, honey. That was my stage."

Hudson worked two stints at Burger King when she was a teen, before she began working on the Disney Cruise Line at 20 years old.

The first time she quit because it wasn't the right job fit for her, but she returned shortly after to work for another year or two.

"I used to do all the burgers and fries, but mainly working the drive-thru and singing," she said.

Then she got a lucky break.

The head manager of the Burger King was also a club-promoter, and after so many shifts singing at the drive-thru, he hired Hudson to sing at his clubs.

"I started making more money singing one night at the club than I did working two weeks at the Burger King, burning my face on the broiler," Hudson said.

Hudson has come a long way from taking burger orders.

She has since won an Academy Award for her performance in Dreamgirls, a Grammy Award for her first album, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

Her new album, JHUD, was released Tuesday, September 23.
