The first visit to the Star Wars Universe for Han Solo in over 25 years has not gone as well as planned.

Harrison Ford, the actor who plays the iconic character, has broken his ankle while filming the as-yet-untitled Episode VII in the space saga.

Access Hollywood spoke to the star's son who said his father may need a plate and screws to fix the damage. He also told the TV news magazine that the injury could force changes in the shooting schedule.

The now-filming Episode VII reunites Ford with Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker and Carrie Fished playing Princess Leia. Fan favorites Chewbacca, R2-D2 and C3PO are also slated to return.

The movie, directed by J.J. Abrams who successfully relaunched the Star Trek film series is expected to introduce new younger characters alongside the familiar favorites.

Though no plot details have been released, Ford's Solo is expected to play a major part in the film.

Some rumors also point to the fact that the actor believe Solo should have been killed in one of the earlier films and that the new film could give him his wish.

Disney/Lucasfilm released a statement following the actor's injury this week.

"Harrison Ford sustained an ankle injury during filming today on the set of 'Star Wars: Episode VII,'" the statement read. "He was taken to a local hospital and is receiving care. Shooting will continue as planned while he recuperates."
