'Independence Day: Resurgence' Tops The Worldwide Box Office

The world was in full support of Independence Day: Resurgence as it managed to make it the number one movie at the worldwide box office. Meanwhile, Finding Dory held strong domestically, solidifying it's dominance.

"International audiences responded to 'Independence Day: Resurgence' by powering the sequel to the number one spot this weekend with $102.1 million in 57 territories around the world and combined with North America, topped the global chart with $143.7 million," said comScore's Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian.

"On the animated side of life, Disney's 'Finding Dory' continues to swim along and nears the $400 million mark in global waters."

Finding Dory continues the Finding Nemo franchise while Independence Day: Resurgence marks another chapter following one of Will Smith's biggest films.
