Twice a year downtown Boston is home to the Boston Calling music festival -- a diverse offering of acts which feature everything from the latest pop bands to reunited favorites and emerging artists.

The summer version of the festival took place last weekend (September 5-7) and the lineup was diverse as ever boasting everything from rapper Nas performing with The Roots to legendary rock act The Replacements gracing a Boston stage for the first time in over years.

This summer's show was so popular that all the VIP passes sold out in advance and only a few tickets were left for each day.

The show, which its own website describes as "a three-day, two-stage festival featuring some of the biggest and best acts in live music," takes over City Hall Plaza, one of the more unique locations for a music festival.

Though video from the whole show has not been released. a number of fans posted some of the best performances on YouTube. Here's a look at some of the favorites including some surprises.
