A Blade Runner Anime Series To Be Released In The Near Future

Blade Runner as a franchise has been popular for many decades ever since the first novel was released back in 1968.

The series spawned two hit Hollywood movies with Blade Runner in 1982 and Blade Runner 2049 released in 2017. Now, the franchise will have its own anime series.

Adult Swim and Crunchyroll have joined forces with Alcon Television Group to develop a brand new anime series made in Japan called Blade Runner - Black Lotus. More details have been posted below as revealed on Crunchyroll.com.

Inspired by the critically acclaimed Oscar-winning film BLADE RUNNER 2049, BLADE RUNNER – BLACK LOTUS will feature thirteen 30-minute episodes produced by animation studio Sola Digital Arts (Ultraman). Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed) and Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex) will direct all episodes of the premiere season. Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo) is a creative producer.

The new anime series will take place in the year of 2032 and it promises to still include some other familiar characters from the Blade Runner universe.

While a release date has not been revealed, expect to hear more news about it sometime next year.

An English dub for Blade Runner - Black Lotus will be airing on Adult Swim as part of its Toonami programming block. Crunchyroll on the other hand has partnered up to be the official worldwide streaming distributor.

This is good news for Blade Runner fans since it's unlikely we'll see another Blade Runner movie anytime soon. Even though Blade Runner 2049 received good reviews, it didn't make that much money at the Box Office last year.
