Zack McGowan, the actor who plays Charles Vane in the Starz Original Series, Black Sails, visited Maine this week.

The actor tweeted a picture of himself next to a placid Northern New England beach. An interesting contrast; none of the beaches he visited as Vane in Black Sails were peaceful.

Black Sails Season 2 concluded earlier this year. It was more successful, both critically and commercially, than Season 1.

Characters started to take shape: Jon Silver got his leg cut off, the reason for Flint's exile from Britain was revealed, and Vane became the series' anti-hero.

"Black Sails' first season may have kept viewers at arm's length emotionally," IGN stated in a review of Season 2, "but there was also indication that the series held promise.

Season 2, in fact, is when the show's characters more vividly came to life and an entire backstory was revealed that helped shed light on the first eight episodes' opaqueness."

In Season 3, the show will introduce the notorious pirate, Edward Thatch--also known as Blackbeard.

Other than that, not much is known about the season three's overall narrative, and there were several cliffhangers after the season 2 finale, such as the fate of Eleanor Guthrie.

Black Sails Season 3 will air in 2016. For more about the popular pirate-based series, visit its official website here. For more about Zach McGowan, visit his official website here.
