The CW's "Supergirl" brings a new threat to the young hero as she continues to figure out who she is outside of being a hero.

She's not the only one who's questioning what kind of person they want to be in "Crossfire," the fifth episode of the second season.

Now that Mon-El is under her supervision, Kara gets him an internship at CatCo. James is tired of watching his friends go off to fight bad guys and decides to become a vigilante.

Supergirl faces off against a gang that's equipped with alien technology. Lena invites Kara to a fund-raiser.

Kara's preparing Mon-El for his first day of work, including a well balanced breakfast, new clothes, and even a pair of glasses. As well as a new name, Mike. His first morning starts off with bribery coffee and an introduction to the big boss, James. She leaves him to his first phone call to go out for coffee with James. Alex and Maggie are playing a game of pool when she lets it drop that her girlfriend has dumped her.

Alex is a little more cheerful about the news than she probably should be. Coffee break is cut short when a group attempt to rob a bank.

One of the guys has a gun that doesn't use bullets. James tries to take another of the guys down but gets his butt handed to him. They end up driving over his dad's camera.

Winn identifies the weapon as alien. The bank attack gives Cadmus a reason to launch a new video. Kara thinks that it's a little too suspicious. James is feeling useless after he couldn't get a win in against the bad guys. Eve is trying to help Mike out by doing all of his work while he eats candy.

Lena comes to CatCo in order to invite Kara to a gala. Mike invites himself along despite how much Kara doesn't want him to go.

Alex is getting lost in thoughts of Maggie at work. Winn gets a notification about another attack involving alien weapons. Supergirl is forced to let the bad guys get away after they launch a police car into space.

Cadmus meets up with the guy running the attacks. She warns him about doing too much high profile crimes and drawing too much of Supergirl's attention. He doesn't consider her warning and she ends up giving him another gun. Alex asks Maggie on a date but when she tries to clarify that fact, Alex panics and says it's not a real date. Kara finds Mon-El trying to shag Eve in the copy room.

She tells him to start following her rules or get a new mentor. James goes to visit Winn at the DEO. He says it's because he misses Winn but really he's just looking for a location on the gang.

James is waiting for them with a baseball bat. He knocks down a few before the leader fires his new gun at an apartment building. James lets them go so he can save the people inside before it crumbles.

After seeing the security footage of James fleeing the scene, he goes to try and talk sense into him. James tries to talk him into helping level the playing field with a suit and a weapon. Winn won't help because he thinks James will only get himself killed. Kara rants to Alex about how Mon-El won't follow in her footsteps. Alex tells her that Mon-El has to figure himself out.

Before Alex can spill her issue, Lena comes over to ask after Supergirl. Miner tells Cadmus that he wants more gun power in order to go after Lena at the gala.

Cadmus refuses. Lena asks Supergirl to the gala for protection. Now she and Kara must be in attendance.

Kara enlists Winn's help to distract Lena as she switches between herself and Supergirl. James is also in attendance. While stuff her face, Mon-El comes up to her and asks for a dance. Winn and James reassure themselves that Kara isn't moving on to Mon-El.

Miner and Crew storm in. Mon-El tries to help but takes a hit straight to the chest.

James jumps into the fray. Winn finds Lena under the stage trying to fix a weapon she set to trap them. The device destroys the weapons just in time.

Before Miner can cut a deal with the cops for the identity of the Cadmus leader, she eliminates him. Winn agrees to help James be the kind of hero he wants to be. Kara informs Mon-El that he was fired from CatCo and that she's going to give him room enough to grow.

Alex goes to see Maggie after she hears about Miner's death. She comes out to Maggie but doesn't stay long enough to ask for another date. Supergirl thanks Lena for helping her take down the baddies when Lena's mom arrives.

"Crossfire" was a good episode for James. "Supergirl" seemed to be leaving the character behind after the romance broke off so it's good to see him trying to become a bigger part.
