Rey's Parents Could Still Be Explored In Star Wars: Episode IX (Spoilers)

If you watched Star Wars: The Last Jedi, you may know what was said about Rey's parents. However, the door is open for something to change in Star Wars: Episode IX according to Rian Johnson who directed The Last Jedi.

Bear in mind, spoilers for Star Wars: The Last Jedi will occur down below so don't read it if you haven't seen the movie yet. This is your final warning if you care.

Anyway, in The Last Jedi Kylo Ren told Rey that her parents were nobodies that sold her off to Jakku to get more drinking money.

This seemed like an unsatisfying reveal for many because people thought Rey was related to a famous character.

Alas, Rian Johnson revealed in an interview with Huffington Post that Rey's parents could be a mystery heading into Star Wars: Episode IX because he's not writing the next chapter. You can read what he had to say down below.

Anything's still open, and I'm not writing the next film. [J.J. Abrams and Chris Terrio] are doing it. With all of these movies, Obi-Wan's whole speech about a certain point of view always applies, so I think that you have to always think about the context of how information is given. But for me, dramatically, that's why that reveal at that moment made sense

Rey's real parents could still be revealed properly in Star Wars: Episode IX because we never saw their faces. After all, Kylo Ren could have been lying to Rey in order for her to get lured to the Dark Side.

I'm guessing Rey's real parents are still a mystery and that Kylo Ren really was lying to her about them. By keeping the mystery open, it will entice more people to watch Star Wars: Episode IX.

It would be disappointing if that story arc leads to nowhere because it was a major plot point of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. For now, we will just have to wait and see what happens.
