Will The Opie and Jim Show Stay On SiriusXM?

Since Anthony Cumia was fired by SiriusXM, his former partners Greg "Opie" Hughes and Jim Norton have remained on the air.

The two have admittedly struggled to figure out what their show should be without their long-time partner.

The early shows have featured a revolving cast of comics supplementing the core duo. It's not The Opie and Anthony Show but it retains many of the same elements, albeit with Cumia leaving a big hole.

Still, despite the loss of their co-host, Opie and Jim have settled into a bit of a flow integrating the outside voices as a more vital part of the program.

The show is not the same but it's an entertaining listen. The big question looming over it is does the show have a future beyond when the duos contracts expire in October.

Opie has been openly pessimistic on the air saying that if SiriusXM wanted them to sign a new deal negotiations would already be underway. That may normally true but in this case it may not.

Clearly SiriusXM has some interest in keeping Opie and Jim or else it would have just used Cumia's firing as a way to ax the whole show.

By not doing that a door has been left open but it's a big question as to whether Opie and Jim would want to go through it.

If the two do not re-sign at SiriusXM their options may be limited. They could reunite with Cumia, who has launched a new subscription-based show online, but that may not be all that easy.

Cumia has said that his afternoon program, The Anthony Cumia Show, is about him and not a place to reunite the team.

He has expressed interest in also hosting a morning show with Opie and Jim. That could happen in the form of a subscription-based show or a pure podcast.

It's also possible that conventional radio, which is desperate for a hit, would take a shot with Opie and Jim, thinking that without Cumia, the pair is a little safer, less likely to pull the stunts that got them fired in the old days.
