Word on the street is Jennifer Aniston could be adding a shiny new Oscar to her trophy cabinet for her performance in her new movie, "Cake", a dramedy about a woman suffering from addiction, rage issue and suicidal depression.

The film is set to release by the end of the 2014.

Aniston, best known for her quirky, playful comedy roles, has taken on quite a gritty character, and is getting a lot of positive recognition for her portrayal of a deranged and damaged soul.

DNAIndia.com reported that she received a standing ovation after the film finished screening at the Toronto Film Festival.

And HitFix.com reported: "The film played to mixed reviews at September's Toronto Film Festival, but clearly Cinelou bigwigs Mark Canton and Courtney Solomon see awards potential."

Other contenders for the covered "Best Actress" oscar include Julianne Moore for "Still Alice", Reese Witherspoon for "Wild", Rosamund Pike for "Gone Girl", and Scarlett Johansson for "Under The Skin".

It may be too early to tell, and she has some steep competition.

But if she's anything like other "funny/pretty" Hollywood actresses who turned to more heartbreaking, serious roles in their career, the contrast is enough to get a pretty good nod. (We're looking at you, Anne Hathaway for "Rachel Getting Married".)

Do you think the former "Friends" star has a shot at the ultimate Hollywood glory?

2015 Oscar nominations are announced January 15, 2015.
