When Will Bill Simmons Come Back To Twitter?

ESPN personality Bill Simmons was suspended by the network for three weeks after he made disparaging (though true) remarks about National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell on his podcast.

The suspension including a ban on all social media, which kept the usually very active "Sports Guy" off of Twitter and inspired the hashtag campaign #freebillsimmons. Now, however, the band is over, but as of 3:15 p.m.

Wednesday, Simmons remained social media silent. In fact, other than a reference to his name on the Grantland.com homepage touting his NBA preview, he seemed as absent off suspension as he did during it.

There have been media reports that the sportswriter no longer believes ESPN, which reportedly pays him $5 million a year is the right place for him. That could cause him to leave in around a year when his contract expires.

The question would then be whether he joins another large media conglomerate or strikes out on his own. The Simmons brand would, for example, fit well with Yahoo's content strategy and he would likely have much more editorial freedom there.

Simmons is the editor of Grantland, hosts a top-rated podcast and helped create the "30 for 30" documentary series for ESPN.
