Venom Movie Finally Gets A Release Date in 2018

Nobody has heard about Sony's Venom movie for a while now, but the film now has an official release date. You will be surprised to know that the movie will be out in 2018 and it occupies the date that was originally set for DC's Aquaman.

As first reported by Exhibitor Relations, the release date for the Venom movie is October 5th, 2018. Aquaman used to occupy that date, but now DC's movie is being released in December 2018 instead. These movies have been shuffled around mainly because James Cameron's Avatar 2 is no longer releasing in 2018. Nobody really knows when the new Avatar movies will be out, but that's a story for another day.

It's interesting to note that Sony has a release date for Venom already, even though we know little of the movie so far. All we know right now is that the movie is set to take place in its own universe separate from the MCU's Spider-Man Homecoming starring Tom Holland. That was the plan a few months ago, although things usually change.

The film is set to be directed by Alex Kurtzman, but no actors or even characters have been announced yet. In the comic books, Venom has been portrayed by both Eddie Brock and Flash Thompson. Long time fans are probably hoping Eddie Brock gets another chance since the Spider-Man 3 version of Venom was horribly played by Topher Grace...

Sony initially had big plans for Spider-Man movie villains, until The Amazing Spider-Man 2 came out. Due to the polarizing reception of that movie, The Amazing Spider-Man franchise was put on hold and has now been rebooted by Marvel Studios. It will be interesting to see if Venom takes place in the same universe as The Amazing Spider-Man.
