'Straight Outta Compton' Makes A Big Box Office Impact

On opening day "Straight Outta Compton" a film based on the success and rise of N.W.A., one of the most successful and influential rap groups managed to gross $24.3 million and continued to a total of $56.1 million domestically in opening weekend.

There was a big push for added security for the opening of the film, however, that didn't stop moviegoers from venturing into the theaters to see a biopic that detailed the lives of, Dr. Dre, MC Ren, Eazy-E, DJ Yella and Ice Cube.

This little piece of Hip-Hop history was a big box office winner and was also a winner with the audience.

The film earned a 96 percent audience score as well as an 88 percent critic rating (7.4/10), according to Rotten Tomatoes.

"It's an amazing film," said James Peterson, a Professor for English at Lehigh University in his MSNBC interview. He continued to highlight F. Gary Gray's direction and the roles of Dr. Dre and Ice Cube who were played by Corey Hawkins and O'Shea Jackson Jr.

respectively. Going into the film excitement clearly overshadowed the films rating and the fact that it would leave no details out no matter how explicit or controversial.

"Straight Outta Compton" managed to break all of it's molds and come out on top this weekend.
