You may not think of hip-hop artists to be the most featured names in a crossword puzzle, however, according a recent article by NY Mag, the New York Times has seen an increase of the usage of hip-hop artists in their crossword puzzles.

"For the out of touch and ancient at heart, that's XZIBIT, DRAKE, ROCAFELLA, MIA, and EMINEM, all answers not in People's crossword puzzle, but from the New York Times, each used within the last week," reports NY Mag.

"Rap and hip-hop culture in general is an increasingly important part of life," said Will Shortz, crossword puzzle editor for the New York Times.

Shortz also added that there are so many good words associated with hip-hop (astonishing we know).

While he did receive many complaints and backlash for his use of these words Shortz has since then proven his critics and disgruntled old folks wrong.

He estimates that the average age of solvers has fallen by 15 years -- "or more" -- during his time at the paper, according to the article, to somewhere around 40.
