Neil Young, one of the most prolific songwriters of our time, appeared on the Stern Show Tuesday morning to talk about his new memoir--"Special Deluxe: A Memoir of Life & Cars"--and also his revolutionary new iPod rival, the PonoPlayer.

PonoMusic is a project from the legendary songwriter, Neil Young, and the PonoPlayer is a revolutionary portable MP3 player "designed to be the next best thing to live music."

Functioning similar to iTunes, you go to PonoWorld to download high quality music files that communicate the heart and soul of a song. "It's all about the feeling of it," Young said. "It's a gift to music lovers."

The PonoPlayer saw quick KickStarter support and is designed with the music lover in mind. It's supposed to emulate the sound and feel of live music, and relay the tunes with respect to the artist at it was created.

"I don't like shuffle taking over," Young told Stern. "On Pono, if you're listening to an album, it will never shuffle."

In an article published by Digital Trends, Ryan Waniata writes, "The Toblerone-shaped audio device designed to change the way we listen to music...

the PonoPlayer offers high-resolution audio playback, through quality components, at a very reasonable price (the competing Astell & Kern AK240 goes for $2,500)."

They're currently all sold out, but you can pre-order the PonoPlayer to receive one as they are made in January and February.
