Connie Britton is more than just another pretty face on TV. When other stars are focused on where the next party is, getting another part, or other equally vapid pursuits, Britton has been working to end poverty across the globe.

The actress, who had an acclaimed run on "Friday Night Lights" also works for the United Nations Development Program as an ambassador -- a job which has her doing more than lending her name.

Instead of merely throwing a fundraiser or asking her fans for donations on social media, Britton is actually working on behalf on the U.N. to expand awareness of poverty across the world.

UNDP, according to its website, partners with people at all levels of society to help build nations that can withstand crisis, and drive and sustain the kind of growth that improves the quality of life for everyone.

On the ground in more than 170 countries and territories, we offer global perspective and local insight to help empower lives and build resilient nations.

In 2013 its programs accomplished a number of things:

o 6.47 million jobs created, over half for women, in 109 countries.
o Positively influenced 99 policy changes in 32 countries and 80 budget changes in 16 countries.
o 3.2 million work days generated in short-term labour in 14 crisis-affected countries, 200,000 crisis-affected people benefited, 40% women.
o 50% of those assisted transitioned to more stable income and employment.
o Positively influenced 18 policy changes in 10 countries and 23 budget changes in eight countries.

UNDP appointed Britton as a Goodwill Ambassador in April at UNDP headquarters. In this role, she will raise awareness of UNDP's work in poverty eradication and women's empowerment, advocating to the American and global public.
