It's been a mixed bag regarding the quality of the current slate of DCEU movies.

Some movies have been great, while others have been less-than-stellar to really bad. Thankfully, the new release of Shazam falls into the category of 'great' DCEU movies.

The one thing I like most about Shazam is the fact that it does not take itself too seriously.

Shazam shows that it's okay to have fun with superpowers and being a superhero. Unlike in Batman v Superman where having powers is shown as a thing of burden.

The thing that makes the movie work so well is the fact that the film centers around a main character named Billy Batson who is only 14 years old.

Due to the main character being so young, Billy Batson feels it's the best thing in the world to have superpowers and he's not afraid to tell the rest of the world about.

He is unlike Batman who normally wants to hide from the public.

Actor Zachery Levi perfectly plays the part of the adult Billy Batson called Shazsm really well.

This is mainly due to this very enthusiastic take on the role. He is able to play the mind of a 14 year old in a man's body and it just works really well in the movie.

Initially I wanted WWE's John Cena to play the part of Shazam, but now I'm happy we got Zachery Levi instead. I'm not sure if any other actor could have played the character so well.

Another feature of Shazam that I like so much is the movie's host of supporting characters.

Billy Batson lives with an adopted family and all of the characters are likable as they help Billy's journey all in their unique ways.

They also have a bigger part by the end of the movie which is really cool to see too.

Even the villain of Doctor Sivana played by Mark Strong has a strong narrative behind it.

The villain also has most of the same abilities as Shazam which makes the fights very entertaining to watch. The fights look clean and there's no excessive property damage in this movie like there was in Man of Steel.

The only weak part of the film is that it starts off quite slow at the very beginning of the movie.

It takes a while to explain both of the backstories of Billy Batson and Dr Sivana.

Not to mention some people may not like some of the humor of the film because some of the jokes are aimed at very young kids.

Overall though, Shazam is a really fun movie with great action and a meaningful storyline.

Make sure to look out for many Easter Eggs because there is plenty to see here. It's by far one of the best DCEU movies ever made along with the likes of Wonder Woman and Aquaman!

Verdict: 4/5 stars
