Today, CNN reported that journalist Mark Halperin has been accused by five different women of sexual harassment.

Most of these incidents allegedly occurred several years ago, while Halperin was director of ABC News' political division. In one instance, a woman said that "I went up to have a soda...he just kissed me and grabbed my boobs."

Halperin, for his part made the following statement:

During this period, I did pursue relationships with women that I worked with, including some junior to me...I now understand from these accounts that my behavior was inappropriate and caused others pain. For that, I am deeply sorry and I apologize. Under the circumstances, I'm going to take a step back from my day-to-day work while I properly deal with this situation.

If the allegations are true, Halperin could be in serious legal and financial jeopardy.

Mark Halperin Net Worth

Mark Halperin has had a long career in the news business, starting at ABC, where he landed after graduation.

Halperin quickly rose to become the political director for the channel. Typical salaries for this sort of position at news outlets range from $500,000 to well over $1 million per year.

After leaving ABC, Halperin spent two years hosting a show called With All Due Respect, where at it's peak he was getting paid a $1 million per year salary, according to CNN.

He also worked at Time magazine, and as a political analyst on MSNBC. Cable TV contributors/political analysts can make anywhere from $100,000 up if they are signed to a contract.

Halperin also made a significant amount from his books, especially Game Change, which was turned into a movie by HBO. The Daily Beast reported at the time that the publisher advanced $5 million (split among two authors) for the book.

According to USA Today, there is another book in the works, which HBO has already acquired the rights to. That will cover the 2016 election. No word on whether that may be affected by today's allegations.

In total, all of these would put Mark Halperin's estimated net worth somewhere around $10-15 million -- or slightly more depending on whether the future HBO/book deal goes through.

Generally, it appears that the claims against Halperin fall beyond the statute of limitations and would not affect his current net worth. However, there's no doubt they will affect his future earnings.
