Lionel Richie Joins As A Judge In New American Idol Series

American Idol was featured on the Fox Network for 14 long years until its cancellation back in 2016.

Well the ABC network is reviving the show with a set of new judges on the panel. The reboot however will still star Ryan Seacrest as the main host.

As reported by CNN, famous singer Lionel Richie is the newest judge for the American Idol reboot.

He joins country singer Luke Bryan and also Katy Perry. Katy Perry will be paid handsomely for her to appearance on the new season taking home $25 million.

Richie stated in a press release how happy he is to appear in the new series He said: "I am very excited to be joining Katy, Luke and Ryan on 'American Idol.

As a singer, songwriter and producer, I feel I can bring a great deal of experience to the table. It's going to be so much fun!"

According to Billboard, shooting for the new series is set to start on October 3rd, 2017.

The group will then make its first public appearance on the Good Morning America show on October 4th, 2017. ABC is hoping the series can become as famous as it once was back on the Fox network.

American Idol was one of the most watched shows on USA television when it debuted in 2002. It managed to spawn lots of famous singers such as Kelly Clarkson, Katharine McPhee, Chris Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson and many many more.

However as the years went by, the ratings started to drop dramatically. It will be interesting to see the type of numbers ABC can generate with the likes of Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan and Katy Perry as the judges.
