With "The Vampire Diaries" returning soon Ian Somerhalder builds the buzz by tweeting and Instagramming a photo from the set of the show.

Meanwhile he is also pushing for conservation during the drought in California.

Somerhalder gave his fans a sneak peek of his actor's chair on the set of "The Vampire Diaries," with the caption, "Being Damon...

The other dude's chair." The show is scheduled to return on October 2 and according to Somerhalder's Twitter fall might just be one of his favorite seasons.

"That beautiful first night of late September, when you need to put something on in the cool misty night... That night is tonight...

Wow," tweeted Somerhalder on September 22.

The weather gets chilly and the atmosphere begins to take on the spooky nature of what is fall.

Cleverly enough the scenario that Somerhalder describes is often the setting for "The Vampire Diaries." In what would seem to be a tactical approach to promotion Somerhalder continues to keep fans up to date on news from the series.

Somerhalder has recently taken to Twitter to urge his fans and others about the importance of conservation during the drought in California. "AALERT!THIS IS MAJOR! Time to start conserving!Check this out!Let this be a major warning-its time to get smart," tweeted Somerhalder yesterday.

Shared in the tweet was a Huffington Post article that illustrates how much water the state is losing to its drought.

His social media accounts show that he is an avid advocate for conservation and preservation and his Instagram post on September 19 proves that.

The post consisted of a photo of a tree with an overlay caption reading, "In 50 years, One tree: Recycles more that $37,000 worth of water, provides $31,000 worth of erosion control, provides $62,000 worth of air pollution control, produces $37,000 worth of oxygen."

As Somerhalder's career continues to take off with "The Vampire Diaries" he is up to using the ability to reach fans in order to generate a positive outlook on future.
