It might still be November, but Christmas fever is already on the minds of many movie goers. This is because North American audiences have already flocked to the cinema to see the animated version of Dr Seuss' 'The Grinch'.

As reported by Box Office Pro, The Grinch earned an estimated $66 million in its opening weekend. This is the third highest animation opening in November and things look good for the movie going forward.

To put this more into perspective, The Grinch opened slightly higher compared to the live action version of the movie that starred Jim Carrey. That movie opened with $55 million in the year 2000.

It does not look like the mixed reviews from critics prevented people from watching the movie.

The movie has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 55%, but the audience score fairs better at a more generous 71% rating. The movie also got a Cinemascore grade of 'A-' which is pretty decent.

The only two other new releases this week were Overlord and The Girl in the Spider’s Web. Those two movies only scored $10 million and $8 million respectively in their opening weekend.

The big overseas news comes from China where Venom scored a very impressive $111 million in its opening weekend. The worldwide tally for the film is now $673.5 million and it should cross the $700 million mark by next weekend!

Venom has already passed other superhero movies such as Man of Steel and Justice League just to name a few.

Now it will soon pass The Amazing Spider-Man 2's total and it could come close to the $757.9 million the first Amazing Spider-Man received in 2012.
