Destiny was released this week.

Bungie's first major release since they sold the rights to Halo, the game's sales have exceeded $500 Million worldwide on its first day.

According to a press release, the title launched at more than 11,000 midnight openings--the most successful video game premier in history.

The hype for the game was considerable, as many media outlets called the game the official successor to the Halo franchise.

But fans of Halo will feel at home playing Destiny; both games feature intense action in a science fiction setting.

Destiny allows players to traverse the solar system as one of Earth's final guardians. Destinations available to the player include: The Moon, Venus, and Mars.

The title allows players to choose from one of three classes as they combat enemy forces: Hunter, Warlock, or Titan.

Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard, stated via a press release, "Based on extraordinary audience demand, retail and first party orders worldwide have exceeded $50 million for Destiny.

This industry milestone marks another blockbuster success for our company and demonstrates our unique ability to create some of the most successful entertainment franchises in the world.

The suecess of Destiny, along with the recent introduction of Blizzard Entertainment's Hearthstone, is further validation of our unique capabilities to create great entertainment franchises from the ground up."

With record-setting sales that are only going to grow, Bungie, Activision, and all other parties involved with Destiny's release are pleased with the results.
