Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, the first game to feature Toad as the titular character, will hit American shelves on December 5. Nintendo made the announcement via Twitter, celebrating the character's debut "solo adventure."

Captain Toad is a platformer that has the mushroom-headed character solving puzzles, and scurrying through mazes.

"Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker will feature an all-new set of levels for Captain Toad to explore," Polygon reported, "Players will have to guide Toad through miniature mazes in pursuit of gems and stars, twisting and turning cube-shaped levels to solve visual puzzles.

Captain Toad doesn't have many tools or skills at his disposal, since he can't jump or use traditional Mario power ups to defend himself."

Toad has often been the most overlooked character in Mario; Yoshi is Mario's trusted steed and Peach is his romantic interest. Even Luigi got a solo adventure when Luigi's Mansion was released as a launch title for the Nintendo Gamecube.

Nintendo has been busy with release date announcements; Super Smash Bros. for Wii U was announced to release in North America on November 21--Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire drop on the same day.

It will be a busy time for Nintendo.
