The Howard Stern SiriusXM radio show kicked the week off with an appearance by Anderson Cooper.

During his interview, Cooper talked about his new book, "The Rainbow Comes and Goes: A Mother and Son On Life, Love, and Loss," his mother and much more.

"The Rainbow Comes and Goes: A Mother and Son On Life, Love, and Loss" was written by Cooper and his mother, Gloria Vanderbilt.

Together the two created a book that reached the number one spot on the NY Times bestseller list.

In the beginning of the interview, Stern pointed out that Cooper is heavily concerned with ratings and when he asked if Cooper is a bit relieved now that the book is at number one, the journalist said that he is already trying to figure out what's next.

"Howard said Anderson's mother is Gloria Vanderbilt and she's like 90 but looks 70. Howard said Anderson says that he doesn't believe there should be any secrets between them," according to MarksFriggin's rundown.

"Anderson said that he just thinks nothing should go unsaid. He said he didn't want to wonder who this person was when she goes.

He said on her 91st birthday they started a new conversation. He said there is no embarrassment."

Cooper and Stern talked about the men his mother dated such as Errol Flynn, Howard Hughes and Frank Sinatra. His mother actually discussed some pretty intimate details int he book. Cooper discussed a relationship his mom had with a 63-year-old man when she was 21-years-old.

While the man was wealthy, cooper says it was all about the love for his mother. Stern told Cooper that he attempted to get his parents to do what he and his mom did but it was just aggravating for them.

Stern asked Cooper about his documentary where he and his mom visited the grave site of his brother and father who committed suicide and Cooper said that it was actually his mother's idea to go.

"Howard asked Anderson if the reporters at CNN are jealous that he gets the gig doing the debate thing. Anderson said he doesn't think so," according to MF.

"He said they all get to interview the candidates for various things. Howard asked if he's up to date on everything with them.

Anderson said he does read the paper every day. Howard said he has to because he has to be up on his stuff."

Meanwhile, Cooper also gave Stern a little insight when it came to his presidential campaign interviews. Cooper says he never separates himself from the interviews because of his own beliefs and he doesn't take sides.

He focuses on getting to the bottom of the points and facts in question.

The interview was pretty eye-opening as Cooper bared information about his work as a journalist, CNN and his relationship with his mother.
