Marine Le Pen was heartily defeated by Emmanuel Macron for the office of president of France.

Here in the United States, little is known about these two candidates, beyond the fact that Macron was a centrist and Le Pen was a far right populist.

But now that Macron is president, it's interesting to learn more about him, including where he came from and what his prior occupations entailed.

Today, The Squander wrote an article about macron and his net worth, and there was an interesting conclusion.

In a world where leaders are almost always multi-millionaires, and sometimes billionaires, Macron and his wife Brigitte Trogneux aren't exceedingly wealthy. How wealthy are they?

Emmanuelle Macron received an average government salary for most of his career. After graduating, Macron went into government administration, where he earned a few thousand dollars a month.

However, that changed when Macron was offered a position at a French investment bank, Rothschild & Cie.

At Rothschild, Macron earned a total of $3.5 million, according to The Squander. Part of this was an annual salary of $400,000 to $500,000, and the rest was a bonus.

Nevertheless, although Macron made millions of dollars during his time at Rothschild, when he declared his candidacy for president, he claimed only about $350,000 in investments and a little more than $100,000 in insurance policies as assets.

Where did the money go? The Macron campaign said that he spent about $1.4 million on a condominium, and a few hundred thousand to pay off loans.

Macron also has a $350,000 in a mortgage loan.

So are Emmanuel Macron and Brigitte Trogneux actually worth? The Squander looked at his assets and his debts and estimates that he is worth less than $2 million, including the profits he made from selling his condo (he has been renting).

Currently, their only income is from her teaching salary and royalties from a book he wrote.
