It seems as if 20th Century Fox is going all-in for X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
A new director is on board and a boatload of talented actors are returning to the franchise. The studio is also eyeing a pretty big actress to play the main villain of the movie.
As reported by Deadline, 20th Century Fox wants Simon Kinberg to direct X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
Kinberg is no stranger to the X-Men series as he served as the producer on First Class, Days of Future Past, Deadpool, Apocalypse and Logan. He is also producing upcoming films such as New Mutants and Deadpool 2.
20th Century Fox may have wanted him to direct since Apocalypse was seen as a disappointment. Bryan Singer usually directs good movies, but that movie was mediocre.
Kinberg is also writing Dark Phoenix so he will be responsible for its success (or failure). The movie is out on November 2nd, 2018.
The other big move the studio did is get back the big actors/characters that appeared in the previous films. Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult are all returning.
Their contracts previously expired in the last film, so it looks like they have struck a new deal. They join the new blood of Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, and Kodi Smit-McPhee.
The main villain of the film is going to be Shi'ar Empress Lilandra. They want Jessica Chastain to play in that role. Talks are still ongoing, but it's likely Chastain will sign on.
Chastain likes to play strong female roles and has had interest in playing a comic book character in the past.
She wanted to play Poison Ivy, but it looks like 20th Century Fox called her first. Hopefully this Dark Phoenix movie can be better than the version we saw in The Last Stand...
