If you had told me a year ago that Chris Matthews would be one of the heroes of the resistance, I would have died laughing.

But here we are, in the second month of Donald Trump's term as president, and the world has been turned upside down.

This is the guy who is best known for saying this:

I get the same thrill up my leg, all over me, every time I hear those words. I'm sorry, ladies and gentlemen, that's me. He's talking about my country and nobody does it better.

That was about Obama, but until now, Chris Matthews was an equal-opportunity suckup, and he'd never met a mainstream politician that he didn't love.

But we're in a new era now, and there are a few members of the mainstream media who might just go down in history as saviors of our Republic.

In addition to Chris Matthews, the list includes Jake Tapper, Carl Bernstein, and Martha Raddatz.

This evening, Chris Matthews actually said that he doesn't feel Donald Trump is the President.

During his closing monologue, Matthews said: "I don't hear 'hail to the chief...I hear the kind of person who calls into right wing radio in the middle of the night with some crazy hate-filled conspiracy theory."

Later, during an interview, Matthews caught the CEO of Newsmax stuttering as he tried to explain away a story in his own outlet that said Trump met with the Russians. And he would not let the CEO change the subject.

Matthews has proven that he is not afraid to say that the President is lying.

Day after day, Matthews has called the lies what they are. And when the idiot pro Trump talking heads show up, he doesn't let them get away with their maze of circular logic.

Jake Tapper has been doing the same thing, actually calling Trump's statements 'lies' -- something nobody in the media would have ever done in the past. And Obama and Bush told many lies during their tenure.

Will anyone else heed the call? Don Lemon of CNN sometimes veers in that direction, but he generally swerves back. Carl Bernstein, meanwhile, has been very outspoken about the President, although he has always been a true journalist.

Things are getting so crazy with the mainstream media that I was almost starting to have hope that Wolf Blitzer will become a real journalist. But then I watched his show.
