Slick Entertainment, an independent studio from Vancouver, British Columbia, announced the upcoming release of their Playstation 4 title, Viking Squad.

A brief trailer was posted along with the announcement, which had gameplay clips of 2D sidescrolling action through a cartoon fantasy world. The Vikings in the game resemble fictionalized interpretations of the fabled Norse warriors.

And, appropriate for any Viking-themed game, the player traverses perilous oceans in a ship with a dragon ornament on the bow.

"Gameplay in Viking Squad is similar to your average beat 'em up," Slick Entertainment wrote on the Playstation Blog, " but also differs in a few ways.

Players can choose from four Vikings, each with their own special weapon and move set. Characters can level up and equip different gear, improving their effectiveness in combat and how long they can last on a voyage."

In addition to the brawling gameplay, Slick stated that there would be role-playing elements in the game, such as "exhausting" and "re-equipping" supplies.

"Every playthrough takes players on a voyage across the sea to raid neighboring enemies," Slick wrote, "After exhausting supplies your party returns with what your able to take away, you then re-equip and do it again.

Hopefully getting further than you did before! Each voyage has access to different locations and items based on your team's performance."

Viking Squad is scheduled to release on the Playstation 4 in 2015. For more about Slick Entertainment, visit their website here.
