Tomb Raider is based on the popular video game franchise and the film adds a lot of Easter Eggs and references that fans of the game will love.

There's probably heaps of references in the entire movie, but this is just a small list of the ones we managed to find.

Bear in mind, some spoilers follow in this article so read at your own discretion. Anyway, here are some of the video game references and Easter Eggs that feature in the new Tomb Raider movie.

Plane crash and parachute scene: As you can see from the video below, this is an iconic scene in the 2013 video game and the movie manages to try its best to mimic this scene.

I give props to the filmmakers recreating this scene as it's one of the more memorable parts of the film.

Alicia Vikander did a lot of physical stunts in the movie and this is one of the more impressive ones. This scene was awesome to watch in the video game, but the film manages to step it up.

Same villains: Trinity in the Tomb Raider video games is a secret militant organization with aspirations to take over the world.

The mysterious group is a part of the film as well and the end of the movie sets up a potential sequel.

In the movie, it's revealed that Trinity is all over the world and even someone close to Lara Croft is a part of the organization.

Hopefully a movie sequel can get made in the future so we can see Lara Croft take them down once and for all.

Mathias and Himiko: Speaking of villains, Mathias and Himiko also make an appearance in the film and they have similar roles.

Mathias is the main bad guy, although he's just a puppet for bigger things that could appear in the movie sequel.

Himiko on the other hand is still an ancient Japanese queen with supposed supernatural powers. Although in the movie this is changed as Himiko has a disease rather than having special supernatural powers!

Lara's first kill: One of the most powerful scenes in the 2013 Tomb Raider video game is how guilty Lara Croft feels killing the first bad guy.

She feels sick to her stomach, although she had to kill the guy in self defense.

In the film, it's kind of similar although the method of his death is different. Instead of a gun, Lara drowns the bad guy in the film version of it.

Bow and Arrow: This one is quite obvious as guns aren't Lara's specialty in both the games and the movie.

The bow and arrow is the main weapon of choice for Lara and it's cool to see her kick butt without the need of using guns.

Dual Pistols: At the very end of the movie, we see Lara Croft old her dual pistols.

Sadly though, she never really gets to use the dual pistols as this is a nod that they might appear if a movie sequel in made in the near future.

Anyway, there's probably a lot more Easter Eggs and references that we have missed. We've only seen the movie once so there's bound to be a lot more for other people to find!
