Despite Venom getting bad reviews from critics, it seems word of mouth is still positive for average movie goers.

This is because the movie is still the number one movie in North America this weekend. It still managed to hold off 'A Star Is Born' for the top spot.

As reported by Box Office Pro, Venom dropped only 56% in its second weekend to earn over $35.7 million. The hold is better than expected and shows that the audience is liking the movie more than the mainstream press.

In North America, Venom has grossed over $142.8 million already and has a good chance of crossing over $200 million domestically. This is good news for Sony Pictures since the movie is set to have multiple sequels.

From a worldwide standpoint, Venom has made over $378.1 million in only 12 days of release. This is a good sign that the movie has broke even and is a financial success of Sony Pictures.

Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga's 'A Star is Born' had to settle for second place again as the movie grossed $28 million in North America. Globally, the movie has now made over $100 million around the world.

It was not a good week for new releases even though some of those movies were rated well by critics.

Ryan Gosling's 'First Man' under-performed and only made $16.5 million over the weekend. This is quite low since the movie has an 88% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

'Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween' also did not set the Box Office on fire with its $16.2 million.

However, the movie did way better than 'Bad Times at the El Royale' which only mustered $7.2 million in its opening weekend. It's low considering the movie stars the likes of Chris Hemsworth, Dakota Johnson, Jeff Bridges and more.
